Leo is a doctoral researcher for the Tamilex project at the Universität Hamburg. After completing a B.A. in South Asian Studies with a focus on Sanskrit at SOAS, he came to Hamburg for his M.A. to study Classical Indology with a focus on Sanskrit and Tamil philology. His primary research interests are the poetry and poetic theories of South Asia, with a specific focus on the Akam genre of Tamil poetry. For his M.A. thesis, he worked on making an edition and annotated translation of the Taṇṭiyalaṅkāram, a 12th century reworking of the Sanskrit Kāvyādarśa. He is currently working towards completing his PhD, an edition and annotated translation of the Tamiḻnēṟi Viḷakkam, a text on Akam poetics, and its commentary which contains 173 previously untranslated poems.
